Weekend Chess Puzzle

Saturday January 10, 2009
Solving tactical puzzles is a great way to improve your chess, and with that in mind, I'll be posting a chess puzzle on the blog each weekend. These puzzles will hopefully be of moderate difficulty; beginning and improving players will hopefully be able to get something out of them, and some might be fun even for more advanced players.

Our first puzzle is a mate-in-three for White.

White to move and mate in three

Feel free to post your ideas or solutions in the comments section. I'll reveal the solution in my next post!

While this puzzle may be too easy to solve for you, I think you have to keep in mind that this site is designed primarily for beginners, and as such should contain easier problems rather than much harder ones.

I have found this site remarkably useful with lots of pertinent information to use to teach chess to my girlfriend, who is an absolute beginner to the game.

Thank you to the site’s owner and upkeeper! Bravo!

As a relative novice, I thought it was still a good excercise, even if “too easy”. I suggest offering three or four skill level puzzles each weekend. Offer them every day if our host is up to it!

Why would any one post the answer?
Please only comment on the puzzle.
Don’t post the answers.
