If ahead in development, attack

Exploit an advantage in development.

By Mark Weeks, About.com

Let's say that you've followed classical positional principles and have rushed your pieces into action. Now you have a lead in development. What do you do?

You attack something. Preferably, but not necessarily, you attack the King. You can also attack an opponent's piece, a Pawn, or even a weak square. Pick a weakness and attack it.

While your opponent is parrying your threat, you'll be able to continue with your lead in development. Before you know it, you'll have a full blown initiative that will grow like a snowball rolling downhill.
