Yahoo Chess - Choose a Table

Yahoo.com
After you choose a room, you get a new window, shown above. On the left is a list of tables in the room; on the right a list of players. The tables with JOIN buttons are waiting for a player. The info shown under 'Game Settings' is important. It shows the time control and whether or not the game will be rated by Yahoo.

The time control is something like '5 min initial time / 5 s increment'. This means that you start with 5 minutes on your clock and get an additional 5 seconds each time you move (sometimes abbreviated '5/5' or '5 5'). The first time you play online, you should pick a long time control of at least 5 minutes and an increment of one second or more. You can adjust this as you feel more comfortable with the style and pace of play. Be careful about sitting at a table with time control 0/0. It means no time limit.

If you JOIN a table with a waiting player, that player has the option of booting you from the table before the game starts. Don't take it personally. Some players like to sit at tables just waiting to boot people. It's how they get their thrills.

If you don't see a table that interests you, use EXIT ROOM to choose a different level and/or room.
