Evans Gambit

Feared throughout the 19th century, and more recently revitalized by players such as Garry Kasparov, the Evans Gambit (4. b4) is an aggressive opening in which White sacrifices a pawn to build a strong center and launch an early attack on f7. The opening was first played by (and subsequently named after) Captain William Davies Evans in 1827.
