Garry Kasparov celebrated his 40th birthday on 13 April 2003.
To mark the occasion we created our first About Chess biography (see the link box in the upper right corner).
We also started a message thread in the About Chess forum, titled
Favorite Kasparov game, where we asked Forum members to pick a favorite Kasparov game.
The thread produced 10 games Kasparov played during his first 40 years.
Some of them are famous and some not-so-famous, but all show Kasparov at his best.
We've chosen a position from each game, given three moves, and asked you which move Kasparov played.
We've also created a separate page with the full games in PGN format.
Match Wits with Garry Kasparov
Part 1 (No. 1-5)
Part 2 (No. 6-10)
PGN for No. 1-10
At the time of his 40th birthday, Kasparov had been the world's number one player for an incredible 19 consecutive years.
There is no sign that he will give up this ranking at any time in the near future!
