Rook

By Mark Weeks, About.com

Definition: A Rook is one of the six chess pieces. Each player has two Rooks at the start of the game.

The Rook is the second strongest piece on the board, after the Queen. It moves horizontally on the ranks and vertically on the files. On an empty board, it can reach any other square in at most two moves.
