Q. How much work or time does it take to become a master?

A.

There is no single answer to this question. Some players become masters after a few years; some never become masters.

One of the great things about chess is that it is fun at all ages. Any time you spent on it when you were younger is not lost and the time you spend on it now will never be lost.
