Elsewhere on the Web : Resources for Chess Organizations and Ratings

Sunday June 24, 2007
Chess organizations -- federations, associations, and clubs -- are stable and don't change very often. When we reviewed the links we maintain under the left column topic Organizations / Ratings, we found very little that required updating. Chess ratings are another matter. Rating systems are subject to ongoing study to improve their quality and to eliminate systematic defects that might appear over long periods of time.

Have you ever wondered how other sports rank players or whether they use the Elo Rating System? So have we. Special thanks to the English Amateur Billiards Association (EABA) for providing a survey of rating systems used in other sport organization.

Do you know of another resource worth mentioning? If so, just add a comment below. • For more about our chess links, see our ChessChrono, Web Resources for Chess.
