Rising Stars Win; Nakamura Claims Amber Invite

What a finish at the NH Chess Tournament! Team Experience staged a strong comeback in the final round, scoring two wins, but it was not enough to overcome their deficit. The Rising Stars held on to win 26-24.

One of the two wins for the experienced side was Peter Heine Nielsen's victory over Anish Giri, which left the door open for Hikaru Nakamura to finish as the highest scoring Rising Star -- an honor which game with a valuable added prize, an invitation to the Amber blindfold/rapid tournament in Nice next year. Nakamura couldn't score a win, but he did draw Boris Gelfand to reach a tie with Giri for the top score among the youngsters.

This led to a blitz tiebreak between the two to decide who would get the invitation into the 2011 Amber event. Conventional wisdom held that Nakamura was the favorite, as he's regarded as one of the world's best blitz players. This time, the pundits were right; Nakamura swept the two game series 2-0, and will join an elite field in Nice next year for some blindfold and rapid chess.

This was the fourth edition of the Rising Stars vs. Experience event, and the third win for the Rising Stars. The experienced team scored their only win last year, when they scored a 27.5-22.5 victory.

I’d recommend http://chesskids.com/ My little brother did their course, though personally I am not very familiar with it.
